About TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes
TEA Tenerife Espacio de las Artes is Santa Cruz's landmark contemporary arts centre, designed by Swiss architects Herzog & de Meuron with Canarian architect Virgilio Gutiérrez and opened in 2008. The striking building, with its sloping ramps and walls pierced by over a thousand small glass openings, covers more than 20,000 square metres beside the Barranco de Santos.
Inside you will find the Óscar Domínguez Institute, with the largest collection of works by Tenerife's famous surrealist painter, and the Tenerife Photography Centre. Its exhibition halls have hosted major names including Warhol, Ansel Adams, Henry Moore and Dorothea Lange. TEA also has an auditorium that screens art-house and documentary films at weekends, an art library and a large public library with very long opening hours.
TEA is on Avenida de San Sebastián in the old part of Santa Cruz, close to the Museum of Nature and Archaeology, Nuestra Señora de África market and the Iglesia de la Concepción, so it fits neatly into a day exploring the city.
