About Auditorio de Tenerife Adán Martín
The Auditorio de Tenerife Adán Martín is the island's flagship concert hall and one of the most recognisable modern buildings in Spain. Designed by Santiago Calatrava and opened in 2003, it sits on the Santa Cruz seafront with a vast curved white roof that sweeps over the main hall like a breaking wave, its exterior clad in broken-tile trencadís. In 2011 it was renamed in honour of Adán Martín, the former Cabildo president who championed the project.
Inside are a Symphony Hall of around 1,600 seats and a Chamber Hall of around 420. It is home to the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra and Ópera de Tenerife, and also hosts the Canary Islands Music Festival, dance, jazz and world music.
The Auditorio is on Avenida de la Constitución, a few minutes' walk from the main Santa Cruz bus station and close to the tram, with Castillo Negro visible from the café terrace. Even if you are not seeing a show, a guided tour is a good way to see the building up close.
