About Centro Cívico Eduardo Oramas Alayón
The Centro Cívico Eduardo Oramas Alayón is the community and civic centre of El Fraile, a residential village in the municipality of Arona, inland from Las Galletas in the south of Tenerife. Run by Arona council, it has an assembly hall used for concerts, talks, award ceremonies and local cultural events, and it sits next to El Fraile's main plaza, which is used for open-air fairs and festivals.
The centre is named after Eduardo Oramas Alayón, who was born in 1923 and spent his final years in El Fraile. He was a celebrated master of the traditional Canarian games of juego del palo and juego de la mano, received Arona's first Gold Medal and was named an Illustrious Son of Tenerife.
Its programme is mainly aimed at local residents, but visitors are welcome at public events such as concerts and science fairs. It is a short drive or bus ride from Las Galletas, Costa del Silencio and Los Cristianos.
