South Tenerife markets
Los Cristianos
The best-known market in the south, held along Avenida Juan Carlos I near the Arona Gran Hotel. Sunday is the main day. Expect clothes, leather goods, sunglasses, jewellery, souvenirs and African crafts. Go early to avoid the heat and crowds. See the Los Cristianos area page.
Costa Adeje (Fañabé)
Held on Thursday and Saturday mornings on Avenida de Bruselas, near the El Duque area. Similar stalls to Los Cristianos, slightly smaller. Convenient for Fañabé, Torviscas and Playa del Duque.
Adeje farmers’ market
In Adeje town above the resorts, with local fruit, vegetables, cheese, honey and bread. Smaller and more local than the coastal markets.
El Médano
A Saturday craft market in the main plaza, with handmade jewellery, art and clothing, plus a farmers’ market on another day of the week. See the El Médano area page.
Golf del Sur and Las Galletas
Smaller Friday markets popular with residents.
North Tenerife markets
La Recova, Santa Cruz
The Mercado de Nuestra Señora de África is a covered market built around courtyards, with fruit, vegetables, fish, meat, cheese, flowers and cafés. It’s open most mornings; Saturday is the liveliest. On Sunday mornings a flea market (Rastro) sets up nearby.
La Laguna
The municipal market by Plaza del Cristo has food stalls most mornings, with farmers selling local produce on set days of the week.
Tacoronte
One of the island’s best-known farmers’ markets, with local wine, cheese, fruit and plants, typically on Thursday and weekend mornings.
Puerto de la Cruz
A street market near the municipal market on Wednesday and Saturday mornings, with clothes, crafts and souvenirs.
What to buy
- Local cheese: smoked and fresh goat’s cheese, often with paprika or gofio rind.
- Mojo sauces: red and green, in jars, easy to take home.
- Palm honey (miel de palma): actually a syrup from La Gomera’s palm trees.
- Local wine: from Tacoronte-Acentejo, Valle de la Orotava and other DOs.
- Tropical fruit: bananas, papaya, mango and avocados in season.
- Crafts: lace (calados), pottery and woodwork at artisan markets.
