Prices are indicative; they change and online offers vary. Canary Islands residents get discounts with ID. If you return within a short period, the park has offered discounted second visits, so ask at the ticket office.
The Twin Ticket is the best value if you also plan to visit Siam Park. You visit each park on a separate day.
What to see
Parrots
The park began in 1972 as a parrot garden, and its collection remains one of the largest in the world, with hundreds of species and subspecies. The Loro Parque Fundación funds conservation projects for threatened parrots.
Planet Penguin
An indoor Antarctic habitat kept at sub-zero temperatures, with real snow and several penguin species. Good on a hot afternoon.
Gorillas, chimpanzees and big cats
Large open enclosures for western lowland gorillas, chimpanzees, tigers and jaguars are among the most popular areas.
Aquarium and shark tunnel
A walk-through tunnel under a shark tank, plus coral and jellyfish displays.
Animal presentations
The park runs shows with sea lions, dolphins, parrots and orcas. Show times are listed at the entrance; arrive at the stadiums early for a good seat, and note the front rows can get soaked.
Captive marine mammal shows are controversial, and some visitors choose not to attend them or the park. It’s worth reading about the park’s approach and making your own decision.
Gardens
The grounds are lush, with palms, orchids and shaded paths, which makes the park pleasant even in the heat.
Getting to Loro Parque
Loro Parque is in Punta Brava, a short distance west of Puerto de la Cruz town centre.
- From Puerto de la Cruz: walk along the coast (about 20–30 minutes from the centre) or take the park’s free train-style shuttle, which has long run from the town centre. Check current times.
- From the south by car: roughly an hour via the TF-1 and TF-5 motorways around the east of the island, or longer but more scenic via Teide National Park.
- By bus: TITSA connects the southern resorts with Puerto de la Cruz, usually via Santa Cruz or La Laguna, which makes for a long day.
- Excursions: many hotels and tour desks in the south sell combined transfer and entry packages, which are usually the easiest option without a car.
Parking is available near the entrance for a fee.
Tips for visiting
- Arrive at opening. The first shows fill quickly and the gorillas and big cats are more active in the morning.
- Plan around the show timetable. Pick up a map with times at the gate and build your route around the ones you want.
- Bring a layer. Planet Penguin is cold, and the north is often cooler and cloudier than the south.
- Eat outside peak times. Restaurants are busiest between 12:30pm and 2pm.
- Combine with Puerto de la Cruz. The old town, harbour and Lago Martiánez lidos are minutes away.
Loro Parque with kids
Children love the penguins, the sea lion show and the Kinderlandia play area. Pushchairs are manageable as paths are paved, though there are some slopes. See our Tenerife with kids guide for more family ideas, including the rainy day options that pair well with a park visit.
Staying on in Puerto de la Cruz
If you want to make an evening of it, Puerto de la Cruz has a more traditional, local feel than the southern resorts, with harbour-side restaurants and bars. See our Puerto de la Cruz nightlife guide and the Puerto de la Cruz area page for shows on tonight.
